Our GoldenDoodle – April 2009
Uncategorized No Comments »Well I know it’s been a while since my last post, so here goes.
As I last posted, we were very concerned about potters vision. Our vet recommnded up going to an eye specialist for dogs. We did so, and after some testing the opthalmologist said that she didn’t believe Potter was in danger of going blind and that anything that the vet noticed was just normal. Potter continued to stare at things, then Samantha figured he had an ear infection. His ears smelled kinda raunchy.
After treating for an ear infection, he has since been back to his normal self – always into everything and constantly wanted to be petted.
Now that it’s April, we realized that Potter is now 3 1/2 years old. Where is the time going? We adore him, but he can often get on our nerves by slipping out the front door before it’s closed. We then have to chase him around the neighborhood to get him back.
We’re gearing up for a summer of camping, Potter and Roxie absolutely love to camp and we hope to have many more stories, pictures and videos throughout the summer.
Potter’s Going Blind..Maybe
Uncategorized No Comments »Several months ago, we took Potter and Roxie to the vet for routine shots and a look over. The vet looked in Potter’s eyes, then looked again. He asked me how old he was, I told him he was only two years old. He looked again.
He informed me that he was quite certain that Potter was suffering from a condition known as Progressive Retina Atrophy and he would likely be completely blind by the age of 8. We were deeply saddened by this, especially since there is no cure for it.
About two months later, we noticed that he began staring at things. Wierd. He would stare at the vacuum cleaner, the remote control, or other toys that might be scattered about. He would stare for a long time, maybe even 45 minutes. We decided to take him back to the vet for another look.
When we got to the vet, he looked at his eyes again and concluded that we need to send him to a local veterinary anthropologist for diagnosis. We went, and were pleased to learn that Potter did not suffer from PRA like our regular vet thought. Only time will tell for sure, but for now we are delighted. His staring at objects is likely a behavioral issue, and we have been working to break his attention when he starts staring. I can tell some difference.
Sneaking Around the Kitchen
Videos No Comments »For well over a month now, we have been finding evidence of one of the dogs getting into things when we are gone. Samantha has been wanting to install surveillance cameras but that’s a bit too much. I asked her “Even if you knew which dog was doing it, what would you do?”.
I decided to set up her camera and start recording when I was getting ready to leave to the store. The evidence is indisputable , and we now know who the culprit is!
Camping with the Dogs
Uncategorized No Comments »We’ve gone on plenty of camping trips this summer, and the dogs absolutely love it. We’re going again this weekend, probably the last time for the season and we will be taking Potter and Roxie with us. If we have time we’ll go down to the beach and let them play in the water.
Potter and Roxie are Booked for the Kennel
Boarding No Comments »We will soon be packing the family up, and heading to Illinois for a camping trip and to meet up with some family there. Normally when we go camping we take the dogs along with us and everything is fine. This time we’ve decided to board the dogs at the Best Buddies Cozy Kennels and Friends, on Hamilton Mason Road. We boarded them there last year when we went to Iowa and we were very pleased with them.
Roxie and Potter will be together while there, and we think that is very important for them.(Especially Roxie)
We decided to board them this time becasue of the long ride, it more than likely won’t be comfortable for the kids or the dogs back there for that long. Tere may also be a few times when we’ll go somewhere with family and taking the dogs with us may not be an option, and we aren’t comfortable with the idea of leaving them in camp alone. We’ll be sure to update after our trip to let you know how they did!
